The Maryland Patient Registry has been open since April 2017. It is important that you understand what steps you need to take in order to obtain your Maryland medical marijuana card. While obtaining a certificate is free, you will need to pay fees to request an ID card. The process for becoming legally eligible to purchase medical marijuana is discussed below.

Patients under 18 years old must have a caregiver assigned to their account at any time. A caregiver is any parent or legal guardian who is over 21 years old. Before the caregiver can register the patient, they must first register them using the link above. To obtain a medical marijuana certificate for the minor, the caregiver must also follow the following steps:

  • Documentation proving caregiver relationship to patient (birth, adoption certificate, court order).
  • Notarized Minor Patient Form
  • Caregiver ID card (caregivers need to purchase an ID card in order to visit a dispensary for their patient).

The state has provided two guides to help you understand the process of registration and approval.
